If you can't tell the difference between a D4 and a D700 or D800, I have to really question whether you've seen them shooting outside of a studio setting. In a studio setting where you have fabulous lighting, I can probably get a really good shot with my old D200.
I shoot with a D4 and a D700, and my 2nd shooter uses a D800. We use all the same glass, and in low-light conditions, there's a huge difference between the cameras.
But I do agree that the camera is wasted without professional glass -- unless, again, you're shooting in a studio setting.
