p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Kansas Great Kiskadee, second known record | |
The Kansas birding community has been abuzz this month about the Great Kiskadee. I first learned about this bird about 2 and a half weeks ago, which decided to take temporary residence in central Kansas about 3 hours from where I live. At first, I decided not to chase this bird, but the reports were too goot to resist, from a photography standpoint based on its reported seemingly predictable behavior and favoring a certain portion of the small lake it was residing. Over this past weekend, I made my trip and what follows are my resulting images. Several of these images I present are 100% crops, as the bird was best viewed from the opposite side of the fishing lake some 75 yards distant. What an exciting Kansas bird!!
1) perched high in a tree in the morning; my closest image of the bird
2) 100% crop, perched on along-shore brush/small trees
3) Better catch light in the eye on this one (100% crop)
4) Low in-flight as it moved to another perch following a quick dive for a snack
5) My favorite in-flight. I blurred out the horribly distracting background in post (100% crop)
