For many hours over the past couple of weeks I've tried to get a good shot of what I believe is an adult, female Northern Harrier. Immature Harriers of both sexes have a similar appearance. After way too many poor ones, I got a couple I actually liked! Here's one. I've followed with an adult male from several years ago to show the distinct contrast in appearance. The others are a couple of recent shore birds.

All very fine photos, Brian. The 1st and 3rd are plus. I'd do a touch more bottom crop on the yellowlegs.

A very nice set Brian! I like the GYL best. I don't mind the big space down below the bird in this shot. You are looking down on the bird to where it is headed, which is that big space.

These are wonderful. The harriers are certainly magnificent looking .

Really nice set Brian...my harriers always seem to be just far enough away to be annoying...love the first best.

Thanks to all for your comments. Eric, I found their erratic movements made it difficult to track and with their low flight patterns my focus often jumped to the background. Could be the photographer!

They're fun to watch though.

You have to watch that white patch on their rumps, it's easy to over expose them
