Thanks for the table above; very interesting. Would E-M5 and OMD be the same? Wouldn't G1X and GX1 both be G1X?

Sorry. I noticed it at the start. I think it got folded into the X-Pro 1/X-E1 category - there, fixed.

Thanks. Currently yes, but there is also an E-M1 on the way. I fixed the list so that all are under EM-5.

So the story here is that whilst we like our Canon DSLR's, most of us prefer a non-canon P&S: We are not particularly brand-loyal. In the main, we are also not yet satisfied that the quality of smartphone cameras is good enough either.

I keep seeing ads for a 42 MP cell phone camera. Really? What must the ISO response be on that LSB?

Quite good for a phone, I must say... the lumia 1020 is the phone you're referring to but is the second version of the "42mp" phones... I have the original of the two (Nokia 808 Pureview) and it creates images IMO that are far superior to that of the 1020. The new phone you see advertised has a smaller sensor as shown in the graph below (but still superior to the iPhone). So I don't bring this thread astray, Ill refrain from posting samples and opinions but there is tons of info out there if interested, just do search

Yes, Canon's P&S's are P'sOS.

The Nokia 808 looks good on paper, but it's big and runs Symbian. The HTC One gets such mixed reviews - from rave to loathe.

I am still using an old skool Nokia - I am, as yet, unwilling to shell out big cookies for 'a' smartphone because from what I have seen they are fragile, depreciate quickly, and are quickly outdated.

I guess I am looking for something durable.

Any owners out there care to chime in?

iPhone 5. I don't need to carry anything extra and it takes decent photos for a cell phone. Other than that it's just my 1000D or t3i.

That is pretty impressive! Good lens and a big sensor is what makes a camera

For me, the two halves of that statement is a conundrum and I've long ago stopped trying to resolve. If I really want to have a "good time", then I know I can't bring any camera, lest I have to be the 'official photographer'. However, If something does come up, I'll happily use my I-phone which I'm almost certainly going to have on me.

If I want to get some photos, but not focus on photography I use my S110. I would use my phone more often, but the camera on it sucks bad on many levels. I don't even think it's good enough to print 4x6 unless light is good. If I could choose I would get a RX100II. To be honest though many times I don't have a camera on me at all.

On a separate note since people mentioned phone cams, is the Nexus 5 camera any good?

To add my two cents, I actually a while back decided to sell my 5D3, 24-70 II, and 85 1.8 in favor of an X100S. I do photography purely as a hobby and I got tired of the weight and cost of my kit.

I did enjoy the sexiness of the X100S and when shooting stagnant and well lit objects the camera was awesome. But the AF was too slow for my needs and despite being smaller than a 5D3 the camera still isn't an iPhone 5!

I sold my X100S last month and picked up a 6D + 24-70 II during the end of month sale. In the end my iPhone is always with me, so if I am going to carry a camera I want it to be the best. I carry cameras only to print/share photos, and I was unable to have Fuji replace what my Canon does for me.
