After my recent problem with the Colorspaced UDMA, I'm thinking about other options. Does anyone have experience with the ND2730? The 70 MB/sec. downloads are very appealing, given that they would be used for primary data storage on travel, rather than being a contingency as usual. Thanks.

I have a 2700 that I bought used and put a SSD in it. I also had to replace the battery. I have not used it much, but it has been rock solid for me as a field storage and file sharing platform.

Everyone who has seen it is impressed by the speed.

I also have the 2700 with a 1 tb drive in it. Love it for back-up and I think Nexto is one of the only ones that reads the incremental data on cards so you don't have to back up the whole card if you added data. I have dropped it (don't recommend that) and it keeps ticking, I just let the battery drain and recharged and it was ready to go. I never had much luck with the hyperdrives which I think the Colorspace UDMA is a later version.

I actually have three of the ND2700 with various 1TB drives. However, they are on the slow side at ~28MB/sec. and the batteries are not good after 5 years. I replaced one, but it shuts down rather soon.

EBH - To be honest on the last trip to Rwanda/Kenya I didn't even use the Nexto 2700 because I had the MBP and portable drives. The nexto is mainly something to have if their is a laptop disaster. Agree that it is a little pokey speedwise sorry I don't have info on the 2730.

On my last trip to Kenya/Rwanda I used a 12" laptop and external drives, also holding a couple of Nextos in reserve.

I tested the Hyperdrive UDMA and obtained 300GB of files downloaded at 35.8 MB/sec. to an SSD on one charge. Unfortunately the ND2700 is only getting 120GB at 30 MB/sec. I'm not too thrilled about the $400 cost of the 2730, especially as it is slow with SD cards and does not support OTG. I guess it's about time to order one and test it.

Here are some new test results using a completely full 64GB Lexar 1000x CF card and 960GB SSD.

Nexto 2700…...…....30.0 MB/sec…...33.8 minutes…..120GB/charge
Hyperdrive UDMA....36.4 MB/sec…...27.9 minutes…..300GB/charge
Nexto 2730…….…....80.9 MB/sec…...12.6 minutes…..420GB/charge
