p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · zeiss 25 F2.8 experiences ?

Hi,

I am in 2 minds about my plan to use the following setup on a Tasmania trip: D800E, ZF2 25 F2.8, 45pce / 100MP - family and landscapes only.
Any opinions on how the 25 f2.8 would suit for intimate landscapes ?

My initial thought process was: use the 100 makroplanar for intimate shots, but I give up the wider angle and closer focus of the 25. Need to travel light, wife and 2 kids accompanying, so will get some time in mornings for myself, but not much else.
the other option was to use the 24-70 nikkor, since I would be stopping down to f8 anyways, again giving up closer focus.
Any guidance would be useful.
thanks

I had the ZF and really liked it. It's very sharp across the frame at f/5.6-f/8 at infinity so it's very suitable for landscape. Flare is well controlled. It has strong field curvature at close distances and a tad CA. The best thing about it is that it's small & lightweight (compared to other Zeiss) and it goes for cheap if bought used.

I won't compare it to the 100 Makro or 21 2.8 though, those have certain image rendering that's different from the 25 2.8.

Borrowed it from a friend (Zf) and shot a lot in Hokkaido few days ago.
On 1.5x crop S5 it gave me abot 35mm fov.
In viewfinder shots look nice. Remains to see how they look on the screen.

Rather small and light with great IQ. Apparently a lot of Japanese landscape photogs name CY version their absolute favourite.

I've never trie the Nikon, but the Zeiss is razor sharp even into the corners by f5.6

I have both the 25mm f2.8 and the 24-70 on D700. In terms of the image quality, the Zeiss is far superior than the 24-70. The Zeiss 25mm has the zeiss signature 3d effects.

I had the ZS version adapted to Canon. I kind of miss having it. It's sharp and contrasty, in my opinion it has the classic Zeiss look and renders similar to 21/2.8 (and more). You might need to step down some for the corners to kick in. I loved mine.

Zeiss 25/2.8 ZS probably at f/11.

What is an intimate landscape?

I'd certainly take your suggested lenses rather than the Nikon 24-70 unless I needed AF. You are making life harder for yourself with the MF lenses than perhaps you need to bearing in mind you will have the wife and kids. Can they stand you endlessly focusing? Worth bearing in mind.
