They're oftentimes not very flattering once they start to pull down.

This past weekend I was shooting some portraits of a (thin) bride with a strapless dress and I got a little concerned about appearance in photos when I noticed that the dress was starting to pull down a bit. It was right on the edge of bothering me. I did think for a moment about saying something to the bride but I let it go. Didn't want to make her feel self-conscious, I guess??

Just like DHS Says, "If you see something, say something"
It's your job to make sure she looks her best in the photos. She is trusting you, as Spike Lee says, to "Do the right thing"

Yeah, you're probably right, Micky. I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.

I did suggest to her to freshen her makeup so it's not like I don't care.

Movement. Timing. Lighting. "The moment".

And sometimes, at least for me, it means snap-snap-snapping away until I get that one INSANE dance shot.

You don't do that overhead dance shooting where you lift the camera up high and shoot downward without using the viewfinder/LCD, do you?

What makes for a GREAT dancing shot?

When its a photo of a mom of 5 kids who is rather reserved (I did family portraits for her 2 years prior to this photo) who then lets loose on the dance floor

When meaningful stuff happens around the dancefloor:

When you capture intimate moments like JClay pointed out above:
Not the bride and groom...

B&G

And when the photo just elicits a laugh for the people involved. I took this one in 2009, but the bride posts it for fathers' day every year on FB. That MC/singer in the background was a hoot, he made the reception memorable. This photo just captures that perfectly for myself and the client.

So, ultimately, I think my answer is photos with private meaning for the people involved are what make dancing shots great, even if others outside that intimate zone may not get the context.
