Thanks Phil,

Glad you like the last one - think it came out pretty well, hope he likes it (assuming he gets the email).

Re players - most are not overly tall - maybe 6-1 or 6-2 at most. Tackling is below the shoulders, no blocking, assisting one's team mate or obstructing other players so moving the ball is accomplished by passing laterally (no forward passes) combined with brute force rather than sheer speed alone. Compact, low center of gravity, barrel chest with lower body strength is a plus to shed attempted tackles. Wings, who play outside, are much faster and agile.

The player in the first two images is quite tall - 6-6 or more (new to club this year) and strong upper body, and ultimately was brought down by those he could not move and sheer numbers once he was contained by the sideline. Images 3 & 4 are of a wing (I think).

In general, big with an "attitude".

Great to see the Ra Ra shots again Bob, excellent portrait of the young lad on the bike.

A wonderful depiction, Bob, of a blood-sport about which I know very little.
These guys look mean as S- - -, and tough enough to back it up.
I think it's remarkable that they don't particularly try to hurt each other- the way many US pro football players do.
Play rough- yes...
Try to injure your opponents- apparently not.
Thanks for these terrific images.

Thanks guys,

Apologize for delay, been otherwise occupied - something that interrupts, called work.

Charlie - No, there is no intent to injure, and ironically from what I have read the injury rate (however that is measured) is less than US football, especially concussions. In fact there is a not too warmly received rule change this year intended to reduce the number of pressure related head and neck injuries in a scrum. I asked the 'Sir' to explain it but don't understand having never played myself.

Contests are not 'pinkies-up' at all. Ironically the local club lost this match in the last 15 seconds of additional time (similar to soccer) on a penalty kick - stupid play on the home team's part. Ultimately, as aptly said by their coach: "You cannot expect to win with two guys in the sin-bin much of the time".

Regards,

Bob
