When we were in MN to shoot bear, we took a boat onto Pelican lake for an afternoon. While the shots aren't exceptional, I'm pretty happy with them. Shooting at 600mm handheld in a rocking boat....C&C more than welcome.

It sure looks like you had a productive time and came back with many species. To my eye the Pelican is the best shot of the bunch. I like the comp and the pose of the bird.

If you would like some ideas for improvements;
1 & 2 for me the chopped wings hurt the images
3 & 4 could benefit from more room on the right
5 I can't find a focal point so my eye wanders around the shot

Tim,

Thanks for the feedback, I truly am looking to improve.

On 1and 2, I agree, but the Osprey was too close (those are full frame) and the only ones that had decent light.

I have widened 3 and 4 a bit. I thought the BG was distracting, which is why I cropped like I did. Are these better?

Thanks again!

The osprey photos have great light and are real nice Bob. Shooting on a boat is tough. While hand held is tricky don't try using a tripod on a boat :-}

Thanks Morris! I see you point about a tripod on a boat...
