Have not posted in awhile; between travel and cleaning out my hard drive for an upcoming trip to Brazil (thanks, Eric!), opportunities to spend time here are limited. But...the combination of a hard drive purge and Pantanal preparation are a reminder of how much I've learned from the community; not only how to better capture and develop great images, but also where to find them! In that vein, here's a West Coast Spring set motivated by some West Coast FMer recommendations: Golden Gate Park (thanks, Khai), Shoreline and Radio Road (thanks, Tam), and the Seattle Arboretum (thanks, Tim!).

Comments/criticisms/concerns all very much appreciated.

Greg

That is a lovely set Greg. Killdeer shot is my fave. The female teal would be next. Great looking hare. That a tick in its ear? Looking forward to the Brazilian collection.

Great variety of fine captures, Greg. You did very well on these. Al look properly exposed, show sharp detail and pleasing colors.
You got some great isolation in most of them, however a couple of these could use a greater DOF.
I really like the last two, followed by the Killdeer and the Hare

I love this set! Yeah the Killdeer is common as dirt, but it's always photogenic in the right setting! They make good subjects. I think I like the Gadwall shots the best of the ducks you shared. -Mike

This is an extra nice set Greg. 6 is the "winner" for the killer comp, but 4 and 5 stand out too ~ Ron

Wanna disc full of Cormie IFs Greg I might have a few thousand to spare! It sure is fun and challenging to get GOOD shots of these dark birds with the low in the sky sun we had.

Wow, you sure have gotten around this year, shot in some very interesting places, met some great photographers and I'm assuming had a great time doing it

What an awesome set you are offering up. One thing I find interesting is the terrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terroir)[yeah I used to be a wine guy] I can detect from most of these. All are excellent shots, some priceless souvenirs from your travels.

Just some quick thoughts;

1 love the comp
2 you made a teal look large! Those are some tiny ducks
4 I too somehow have a soft spot for Killdeer even if they are fairly obnoxious with their constant calling
5 superb shot
6 is a classic
7 says home to me
9 another classic of one the most handsome ducks
11 a top notch shot pulled off expertly. I KNOW shots like this one are difficult but practicing on these flyers teaches the importance of lighting for IFs. Heck after a day with these guys IFs are piece of cake to grab but to pull off getting the angle right with a bird flying in NATURE is a lesson well learned.

I for one am grateful for the time we had spent together and hope to do it again sometime.

Good luck in Brazil

Tim

Hi,

All very nice, although I would have preferred not to have the out of focus birds present in #s 1 and 2. The Killdeer, Hare and Lr.Goldfinch are my faves.
