p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Anyone own a current Sigma 500mm EX APO DG ?

I am having problems sourcing a used 500mm f4 EF L IS, Most respected buy & sell dealers tell me they appear every 6 months (or more).
My local Sigma importer has undertaken to obtain a 500 EF DG APO to try. No one I have contacted stocks this lens & I have been told (by the importer) they are supplied from Japan on order. Grey market are available but I don't go down that track as by the time I have paid duties & admin fees prices are almost the same. Past experience.
So if anyone using Canon & this lens has the time to donate their thoughts I would appreciate hearing their comments. There is a 600 EF L IS available locally but I am not too keen on the weight.
I realise the Siggy does not have IS & wonder how important the lack thereof has affected keeper rate.
I did pose this question on the Canon forum & received helpful comments but none from users of this lens.
Thanks.

It would appear this lens is just as rare if not rarer than a used Canon 500 EF L IS. I can find a couple of 4.5L non IS lenses but they are very old, well used & I believe no longer serviced by Canon.

The Sigma is a good and sharp lens. Not as good as the Canon 500 IS lenses, but very nice. Without knowing what you are shooting it's impossible to say how important IS would be for you. The older Canon EF 500/4,5 lens is a very nice lens. But it can be very difficult to service or repair.
A new Sigma 500 cost a lot less than a used Canon 500 IS lens.
