I love #2. I like how the lightning just lights up one small area and highlighting the mountains. Excellent series.

#3 is my favorite, love the clouds and varied light.

Wow... these are sure sweet! You got these all on one trip? That is really awesome. I think #1 is my favorite, I really like the color in it. But really all 3 are award winners!

#1 is definitely my favorite. Partially because I grew up in Tucson and know how hard it can be to get these shots (especially since this year's monsoon I heard was weak), but mostly because of the color, composition and the mood. I like how the lightning behind the Catalinas (15+ miles away) is acting as counterpoint to the lightning in the foreground, so this shot managed to compose multiple strikes really well and use the whole frame. Worked out perfectly.

Thanks Jim! This is one trip.. my photography trip specifically for monsoon thunderstorm lightning. This is barely scatching the surface. I'll post more :-D -Mike

Hi, John. Thanks for the kind words. This was my first trip for monsoon thunderstorm photography. I'll definitely be coming back.. probably every two years. I pick July because I personally think it's the best time for southeastern Arizona. Tucson, specifically, didn't have much action, but the east of Tucson was where the heavy-hitting action was around the Wilcox vicinity. Dos Cabezas Mountains and the Chiricahuas were reliable performers on this trip... along with the Safford area/Mt. Graham.
