Still doesn't do it for me. I'm still upset that when they were updated they weren't without the IS, wider aperture and in the $400's. It's a shame because these are important lenses for an amateur crop user like me. To each his own I guess.

But these lenses are designed for full-frame shooters.

I understand your sentiment, but I think your ire is misdirected. You should be advocating for Canon to introduce some fast EF-S primes in the wide/normal range. Wide angle EF primes are wasted on APS-C, being too expensive, too bulky, and optically compromised after throwing away 60% of the image circle (and resolving power).

Ideally, Canon should offer fast EF-S primes in 15mm, 22mm, and 32mm focal lengths, but don't hold your breath.

With 3 FF cameras in production and most APS-C shooters into kit zooms, I don't think the market is large enough to justify special design wide primes for EF-S mount. We're lucky to have these mid-prices primes. It only took Canon 25 years to get around to redesigning the 35 2.0, a lens that fits all EOS film and digital cameras. So maybe 50 years for an APS-C version...

I gave in on this latest price reduction and just received mine today. Very sharp in the center region wide-open. Bokeh is very nice as well. I can get 1:1 sharp images down to 1/8 on my 5Dc for about 2 stops of stabilization. Lens is bigger than I expected, esp. compared to the 28mm f/2.8 IS.
