That bee, found again on a chia plant resting/cooled in the shade. Shot at varied angles with SS slow enough to allow ambient light in BG of sky/through nearby trees, fill flash.

Thanks Andrei. I use an old Panasonic FZ50 with two achromats stacked to give me a working distance of 2" so I can get close enough to stabilise the scene and lens for a sharper shot at low SS. It's all in my sig link.

I think one of the reason why I don't take a lot of full body shot images is that I can't come close to your quality Mark -beautiful set!

Taking you at your word John I would say to you do as I did, take from me in the way I took from you. And when the time is right it will all fall into place. It' only thinking that gets in the way.

Great series Mark!

Number 2 to me seems to be the outstanding one though. It feels more intimate with the wasp. The angle and comp really emphasizes the face and eyes. Just by being that bit lower it looks more natural (if that is possible?). The angle also has a huge part to play too as the wasp is looking across right at me (you behind the lens) so it is connecting with me (the viewer).

Thanks Steven. Yes, the angle of view has a lot to do with the appearance of intimacy - it's a communal resin bee BTW, uses resin in the building and sealing of its singular nest hole - though I can rarely say I have a preference, just not so inclined generally. You could say composing an image from a different angle where I am seeing the scene the creature is looking into is also intimate, a shared experience.
