For this thread please post your single best action photo of the week for High School Football. I draw a lot of inspiration from seeing other people's great photos, and shooting football is new to me. So if you would, please post a photo and give a little explanation to it such as your position, did something catch your attention before the shot, what it preplanned in anyway, did you do anything special with your camera?

I really hope to be able to post something after tonight (my first game!)

OK, I'll go first. Probably my favorite. Nothing really special about camera settings. Just watching action come to me and trying to keep the camera on target.

Well I did, ok, but it seemed like both the teams liked to run up the middle a lot, so I didn't seem to have a lot of hard one on one tackles or diving catches.

The ref did give me a tip to sit at the corner of the endzone so if they threw a fade or if someone was diving towards the pileon I'd be in a good position. I did notice a few good down the line / kids running out of bounds shots, but I didn't capture anything there that jumped out at me as special.

OK but definitely not great, I'll keep working on position and timing

Wasn’t the shot I thought I got. I thought I got him totally horizontal as he leaped into the end zone. More of a celebratory leap than a necessary one as he was untouched. Totally miserable 7:30 PM sun.

So, I'll play. It was a ridiculously lopsided game - the team in blue out-gained the white 319 yards to -8 yards in the first half, so this was sort of a telling photo of the QB running away from the opposition. Throwing in a second shot - an "almost"...if only #11 wasn't there... I like the idea for the thread. Our own version of "Saturday Morning Monitor Glow" (not quite the same ring).

This catch went for a touchdown. Nikon D3s and Nikon 300mm f2.8 - ISO 5000, 1/500 @ f3.2. Initially forgot about the other questions asked so I'll add that I was following the quarterback and once he threw the pass I switched to the receiver. Also, I was kneeling which I typically like to do for most sports.

Some nice looking shots so far. I'll go with this one. It was a one sided game with the maroon team winning 40-0. Pretty much a ground game all night.
