Continuing the tour of Welsh narrow gauge railways, here is the Bala Lake Railway (not an original as it is laid on the former GWR standard gauge trackbed).

Steve,

I'm glad you climbed aboard. Do you have any more from Nevada City?

Dennis

Dennis,

Everything else I have from Nevada City has other tourist cluttering up the shots. Fortunately for me, they never ventured to the backside of the train depot. I hope to get out next week and start my search for more railroad related opportunities here locally. The excellent contributions to this thread have hit a chord and I'm on the hunt now.

Lot of great images on this thread! I don't get the chance to shoot many RR type shots, but here are two from last week. Both are of the Staunton, VA depot.

I love these shots. I live just outside of Roanoke and might have to make it up there sometime.

Went,

Thanks. I'm not sure why its like that, but that really is the color of the river.

I think it's from rock flour. The rushing water scrapes off tiny particle of rock, and that can give water that color. I see this all the time in glacial rivers especially.

How many lights did you use? Looks like at least 12...

Okay, don't know what happened above, the comment was supposed to be: How many lights did you use? Looks like about a dozen?

I used 15, total of 10,000 watt seconds, give or take. For sense of scale, look at the tractor in bottom left corner.

I know it isn't a model, I've done a little night shooting and was trying to figure out the light placements. I can see several, just couldn't count the ones behind the train.
Do you co-ordinate anything with the RR?

Sometimes. With this one, I know everybody, even got them to momentarily stop for this shot. For Class 1 railroads I just set up and pop them as they go by.

Watched a few minutes of an old Hoppalong Cassidy episode a few hours ago. A locomotive very similar to the one you ( dennist ) shot in the Chama yard featured in the plot.

Here's Western Maryland Scenic 734 on a lovely August morning in 2011, a caboose behind
