Tried chasing it down near Hearne. It broke down with a flattened wheel. Couldn't find it.

NHRR 3025 coming out the night:

That is a cool shot. The 3025 was never actually on the NHRR roster but runs for the Connecticut Valley Line. Their Christmas run is a lot of fun.

Back in the summer I happened to be in York for the "Great Gathering" of the six remaining A4 Pacifics brought together for the 75th Anniversary of Mallard's steam speed record run. On the Tuesday all six were there ("Sir Nigel Gresley", "Bittern" and "Union of South Africa" plus the three below, and the crowds were enormous. By Friday morning only three remained - "Dwight D Eisenhower", "Mallard", and "Dominion of Canada" and the NRM was back to near normal crowd size

These are from the Conway Scenic Railroad this past Saturday. The temps. got up to a balmy 2 degrees. I believe this was the last run for 7470 for a while as it is due for it's boiler inspection.

Lots of steam in those temps! I thought about going up but too long a ride. I've been hearing that 7470 may be parked for a long time as the RR doesn't want to invest the money needed to do the work.

Oh yes..lots of steam! It was -5 degrees when we arrived at 9:30am.

I was hearing 2-3 years. When I asked about the time I was told that it was an extensive inspection and a shoestring budget. I took that to mean that they were relying heavily on volunteers.

A slight correction there nrferguson.
The Talyllyn railway does not run from Porthmadog as far as I know :-)
You probably meant somewhere else?

From what I have heard, it's more a matter of money. It sounds like they want the railfan community to fund their work. Valley RR has just a few shop people yet they seem to be able to do alot in a short period of time. They also advertise and make their money with steam engines.

I think with Conway Scenic, steam is a novelty and as such, won't get top priority for budget or shop time. Too bad as there are fewer operable steam engines each year inspite of numerous restoration projects.
