It looks like we could have had a FM Landscape meeting up at Mt Rainier if we had planned it. It is really great to see everyone's take on a very grand mountain. I was up there last week and spent a lot of time roaming around Paradise. It had been a few years since I had been there so it was fun to renew old memories.

This is a two shot horizontal pano of Mt Rainier, one for the foreground after sunset as the twilight started to fade, and then a few minutes later I started a sequence of shots for the star trails. This has 34 shots for the sky of 30 seconds each. There was a half moon still up at this point to help light up the mountain, but I think by starting earlier with the star trails it added some light to blending of the scene as well.

There was some incredible meteor showers during that time also, I also had my D600 set up to focus more on Milky Way and the Meteors, but those are for processing another day...

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Beautiful, intense colors!

I'd love to see you put up a tutorial on your star photography technique, yo always seem to nail it!

Awesome image. You mentioned it was a 2 shot horizontal pano? Is there another one I am not seeing?

Thanks so much Michael, I am glad you liked it! Doing a tutorial is something I should consider as I do really like doing the star shots. In the mean time, Steve Perry has a cool video tutorial on how to do star trails that is very informative.

Hey Jason, thanks so much. I didn't realize until I assembled it how much the blue flowers in the foreground would balance with the blue cast of the night sky.

Hey Ken,

I am glad you liked the shot! I didn't explain myself real well here I see. This was two horizontal shots, one for the foreground and then one for the sky, though the sky shot was the series of stacked shots. The two horizontal shots were then stitched one below the other. The end result was a 4:5 format shot as you see here, but seeing as it was two 36mp shots stitched, that probably puts it up in the 60mp range of a shot considering the overlap.

Does that make sense? Hopefully I didn't make it even more confusing...

Oh, got it!

Did you use a PC-E lens? or did you pan up? Thx. Looks nice. Glad it worked out, those are lots of shots to process.

Great shot Jim. There seems to be a flurry of Rainier shots recently and I like the unique perspective of this one. Well done.
