I have not shot my S5 Pro in ages so dusted it off and enjoyed some color.

A busy Friday night in Shanghai.

Carsten: finally.. Apparently this came with 2 spare batteries, so I should have 3 original ones now. Turned it on and played with settings a little.
The DR percentage confuses me a little...plus the image size. I thought the DR increase would bring down the resolution, but apparently it didn't...

Yes, the menus are confusing. I have the DR setting set to 400%, that is why I have the camera after all. I have not heard of any negative effect from this setting, although the images may look a little flat. The Contrast knob should fix that, the important thing is that the information is there.

Here is a page with a decent description:

http://www.ppmag.com/web-exclusives/2007/06/fujifilm-finepix-s5-pro-extend.html

The resolution is really 6MP, which corresponds to the medium setting for JPG file sizes. Large gives an interpolated 12MP image, which isn't worth the trouble. Not only is it interpolated between RGBG, as with all Bayer camera, but also between S and R pixels, i.e. highlight pixels and shadow pixels. The 12MP is not really sharp. I think that Fuji added it because they were afraid how a 6MP camera would be received. The 6MP images are beautiful though, and print well. You won't make wall-sizes prints though, keep that for a D800 or an IQ180

About putting away my D800, if I could focus better manually with the S5 in dark situations, I might well use it for all my people shots. For my personal work though, I want more resolution than 6MP. It is my intention to build up a body of work which is printed at anywhere from A3 to A1, and maybe even the occasional A0. The S5 could probably do a good A3...

If you read Thom Hogan's review of the S5 Pro, you'll find out that the resolution of the S5 is in fact higher than 6 megapixels and also that the interpolation situation is somewhat different than you describe above. Interesting reading if you have an S5 camera.

Even taking viewing distance into consideration?
I recall there was a claim that 350D could be printed to A0.
Not that I print much atm....

Hogan claims that 13" X 19"'s are VERY doable with the S5 Pro.

Fuji S5 + Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, ISO 640

Just love the Fuji's colors - check out the skin tone - wow, considering very minimal processing -- only sharpen the pic.

There simply is no better camera for skin tones. None. Nada. Even Fuji's X100/X* cameras don't even get close.
