I stitched this as a panorama recently, the original file is absolutely enormous (8300px long edge), it should print huge well

Did you desaturate it?

Maybe add some contrast and also make the 2 diagonal lines (from bottom left to top right) to stand out ?

A moody scene with nice diagonal lines, but difficult to capture well.
Some may be the time of day.
As others have pointed out, it is lacking contrast which can be readily improved by setting black and white points, +/- some curves work. If you could extract more detail in the sky, adding more mood, it would help.
Is is lacking pop and vibrance not only because it is a low contrast scene and needs tweaking, but because the colors are muted, with limited tonal range. A boost of vibrance would help.
Ultimately, however, I do not think this is a keeper. Other than the size effect of printing large and the nice diagonals, there just isnt that much interest. Greater tonal range in the sky, hills, more play of light on the hills, more color variation would make this scene more able to sustain prolonged interest.

I did indeed desaturate it. I think I held back on contrast because I had already thrown so much contrast on to it to cut the fog over the mountains.

I've gone back and tweaked the edit, although I will say there is no way to extract more contrast out of the sky - it is a wall of the same fog lit in the same way. The maximum deviation is only 3 values in any channel...

Here's the new version:

The lack of color variation in the hills doesn't bother me personally, because I think there isn't that much when fog is rolling through. The flatness in the clouds isn't very interesting and I think that's the main problem with the image.
I agree with difficult to capture. I have an image of foggy mountains that I was trying to get last weekend, but the lack of variation in the clouds wasn't turning out very well.

+1 @ others ... particularly the flat uninteresting wall of fog.

You mentioned the contrast boost to cut the fog ... did you mask the other areas or did they come along for the ride too?

Any chance we can see the unedited version?

Yes, better but too far.
Sorry, but I dont think this can be turned into a strong image.

+1 @ Scott ... lemonade looks better, but that solid bank is going to be tough to get away from at that exposure/contrast level.

Diggin' the effort to bring out the detail, etc., but this is going to be a tough gig. The latest version is doing a better job of showing the "smoke" rising from below, but I'm just not sure that this one is going to be a candidate for large printing ... at least not yet.
