| p.1 #1 · 70-200 f/2.8 non-IS AF Failure |
I have a quite old (late 1990's) 70-200 f/2.8 non-IS where the AF suddenly stopped working. I bought a 70-200II, and put the (then functional) non-IS in the bag. A few months later (because I never got around to selling it), I brought the non-IS with me to a shoot so a friend could use it. I mounted it to her Rebel, and all the focus motor wanted to do was oscillate rapidly back and forth in small increments. Same behavior on my 7D and 10D. Cleaned the contacts, checked the focus limiter, worked all the switches on and off. Manual AF is fine, so I tried using the focus ring to give the lens a different starting point. No change. Same behavior in Servo or One Shot as well.
Sounds like a pricey fix? I want to sell the lens. I think I'm going to send in my $100 for CPS Gold now...
