p.1 #1 · 1st time macro shooting

Had 20 min to walk around the marina on my lunch earlier today. All but 1 taken at f8, all on a tripod, mf thru live view on D600 using sigma 105mm (non os). C+C is welcomed and encouraged...had alot of fun doing this today

Well done Dan. I like the webs you've captured in some of these.

The colour of the fourth one suggests that your colour temperature was set to tungsten.

Some of them might look better if you reduce the brightness.

Anyway, a good start.

CC (seeing as you asked for some)
If you haven't already calibrated your monitor, you really need to do so. There's no point trying to set the contrast/saturation if you're seeing something different to everyone else. You should try printing some of these to decide whether you like what you see. The colours look most natural on the last one. #4 looks most unnatural. If you can't see the "haze" around the leaves, then you really do need to do something about your monitor.

Otherwise, try to separate your subject from your background. A flower will look much nicer if the eye isn't being distracted by leaves and stalks around it.

If you're just getting into macro, you may find that while flowers may seem the easiest subject in that there's lots of them and they don't fly away, they're actually the hardest subject to make beautiful. The smaller you go, the easier it is to get a nice background and find a sharp point of focus.

Hope this helps
