I D800e for 6 months and am very happy with it. The colors and sharpness are unbeatable. Not that fast as D4 and D3, but for most situation, I am happy with it.
Now I am considering D7100. For the ones who have both this and D800/e, how you rate/compare them in term of sharpness and colors.
Your observations are appreciated.

I'm just starting to perform a comparison myself. Here are two images of a focus chart at close distance using a Sigma 70mm macro, which is one of the sharpest lenses around. Both shot tripod, 3-second exposure delay (MLU), raw, sharpened to 35/35/.08 in LR4. Four images taken with each camera, sharpest from each selected for this comp.

I just picked up a D7100 yesterday, but so far I am very impressed with both the sharpness and the colour.

I just realized that my camera bag is now blur-filter free: D800E, D7100, and XE-1.

Blur-filter?

*edit* AA filter, right.

No probs with sharpness on my D7100. It has defeated my 18-70mm. Sad day. I use 24d, 35g and it really sings.

This is great. Now I know that the 7100 will be good companion for 800e, for my shooting birds in Florida in the next 3 winters.
thank you all, friends.

Yes, the filter over the sensor in most outdated digital cameras, that slightly blurs the details to mitigate the non-existent problem of moire.

Great example for 7100 and also for the lens, that I have , replacing the f2.8 version and even the 105 macro.

The D7100 has completely revolutionized the images I can produce with my 200-400 VRI... Sharpness through the roof.....

It's only outdated if one doesn't mind aliasing (false detail). Most people don't so I suppose it does mean AA filters are outdated in a marketing sense.

With the higher pixel counts of modern cameras, aliasing and morie are more theoretical than real problems, but there are still a few camera manufacturers that insist on using AA filters to degrade all images, even the 99.9997% that don't need it or benefit from it in any way.

Pixel densities are still well below the sampling thresholds at which AA filters are no longer necessary. But again people like the appearance of detail even when it's not real and so marketing wins over engineering.

Have any of you guys compared the D7100 with D5200? I just recently bought a D5200 (for hiking, or non planned photographic travel due to very like weight) and from what i understand its the same sensor? So it should produce pictures that are just as sharp, correct? I am only using the kit lens at the moment, but im told with a good lens it will be razor sharp and callenge my D700s? just curious if true...

D5200 is same sensor but it has an anti-aliasing filter in front and if you zoom in to 5 million percent you will see the D7100 is fractionally sharper...

As opposed to having all detail degraded due to artificial blurring, yes...
