Was planning until I realised that Japanese hive mind decided to have summer holidays this week..
Camping on a motorway doesn't quite match my plans..

I feel like I am the idiot here. I tried using peaking a couple of time on my 5N, and felt it interfered with composition, so I stopped using it. I now use exclusively magnification, except with my Touit 12.
How do you guys manage? Because I would love to achieve critical focus without the clicks of magnification, which, themselves, don't help good composition.

I set peaking to low and yellow, I find these settings to be the best and most accurate without being in the way.

practice (and good eyesight which is bound to fade with age). chase a small child around with an f/1.2 lens 10 times a day for a year and precision manual focusing using this method will be a breeze.

Haven't seen if this can be spotted in LV.

Did a quick test of the technique whilst waiting for a train this morning, 90 Cron AA with Nex 6 f/2. Quite effective.

Funny you mention it.
I found it on my 5DC, with a small quirk however - every time the object appeared to be in moire it was behind the focus plane.
Weird?

This has same effect as the micro-prism screen (EC-A). I found the standard matt screen is actually a finer prism screen.

very cool

i've been trying it out on a 5N+EVF with f/1.4 and f/1.8 lenses with great hit rate
once you know what to look for even the LCD can give the same effect, but to a lesser extent

definitely more noticeable with the EVF

I tried this last night, it works, but not as well as peaking. Gets in the way less than peaking though.

I think it gets harder when you up the ISO due to noise. The moire peaking works better during the day than at night for this reason IMHO.

by "last night" i guess i meant yesterday afternoon/evening... this was with 1.4 glass before sundown so i had plenty of light for lower ISO's. Less distracting than peaking, but nowhere near as fast.

takes practice. eventually it's just as fast and much more accurate at f/1.4.
