Will post my findings! For once I actually hope it does not blow me away.

Although secretly I hope it does!

I keep telling myself I have 85f1.2 ii, 135f2 and 70-2002.8ii for portraits. But it is still calling me My wife has said in no uncertain terms she will kill me if I get one.

some say that the 200 2.8 is just as sharp and just as fast

It's been calling me for ages. So far I have resisted. These recent threads are very disturbing though!

Depends mostly on which one you have. Don't listen to those who have both. They're indecisive and fickle.

I have the f/1.8, because it's better.

I do have both..

1.8 is better but need monopod for sure due to no IS... (at least for me)

Quite a dilemma. Dead but with an Ef 200 f2 or alive without one. Not an easy choice.

There are a couple of 1.8s listed on B&S...and much cheaper than the F2 version

I am going to stick with the f2 as I would like the IS. If I decide to buy one ideally would like to get a very nice used copy but they do not seem to come up much in the UK.. I guess those that buy it keep it.

I was nearly tempted by a used f1.8 a few weeks back that was up at £1800.. it looked a bit abused though so decided agaisnt it.

I will do a little test against 200f2.8 and also the 300f2.8.

Neither lense will make you take better photos then that which you already do. Save your money and shoot more with the other lenses. (not meaning you don't shoot bad/okay/good/great/excellent shots now. Just trying to dissolve any desire triggered by the misconception that you, as a photographer, will be able to evolve your work from spending more money. These forums thrive on this, I know, but maybe there's hope yet).

Some of us with both are not fickle or indecisive - just emotionally attached. I bought the 1.8 before the 2 came out. It has given beautiful results in some of the ugliest-lit gyms known to mankind. But if I have to trudge up a hill or take a 200 in a bag along with a 400 and a 70-200II, there's no contest. The f/2 gets the nod.

Thanks Jeremy. Believe me it will have to impress me massively for me to buy it.. So far I have not regretted any of my more expensive glass purchases. In a way buying used is pretty sensible as if I decide I am no longer needing the lens or need cash I can get nearly all of my money back and see it as a cheap 'rental'. I am guessing the difference will be pretty minimal as I have a nice selection of fast glass, hence trying before buying.

Bodies are a different matter IMO.. Not sure I will ever spend 5k on a body that in 3 years will be worth half. (Well maybe when I am rich!)

The 200 f1.8 is the most incredible lens I own. I sold 4 lens to buy this one and I am not sorry. Jim

From another gym shooter (where photons of light appear sparingly), the 200 1.8 is the best lens ever.

I have worked out how to set the focus limiter, but am not sure what the four rubberised buttons and the ring above the MF do?
