Terrific couple to work with.

Keeping the precise location a secret. If anyone correctly guesses, I'll assist them for up to 90 minutes free of charge. Well, here's a hint: somewhere around the DC area.

LivLif knows where this is at; he was kind enough to get up at 0400 to help make this happen. I hope that if and when my skillset progresses to his level, I'll have that same willingness to help others even if they're not at that level. This here awf-camura flash stuf is lots of fun.

And yes, I know, the logo looks awful... working on getting a better one. Nowhere to go but up, right?

Heya, as an overall note, these feel unprocessed and underexposed to me. Perhaps that is your style, so take my comment with a grain of salt. The only other point I would note, you already mentioned. Your text/logo is killing every single shot, personally I would go with no logo before doing that.

Cheers,
Sean

I would agree with the prior poster. They are too dark overall for my tastes (which may or may not be a good thing =P). Many of your images also seem so distant from the people. Also, the poses look very much set up. I would recommend creating ways for them to interact to look more natural or evoke certain emotions.

Thank you for posting and this merely my humble two cents.

I think you could get better light if you do this shoot late in the day, they look way too underexposed for my taste.

I somewhat agree with the other posters regarding exposure and subjects
near Great Falls / Potomac?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

As to location... Great Falls on both the VA and MD sides are great. But nope, it wasn't in either of those. If noone guesses within a week, I'll let people know who PM me. There's a pretty good clue in the images, you just have to look hard enough.

Couldn't even touch where this is! But such a nice location.

Just some things I noticed on the posing/composition side. 2 and 4 look very awkward and I don't know if I would include them in the set to the client. 11 and 15 I wish the composition/lens choice was different. For example 11 I really wish you had framed them on the porch and shot straight on to the house.

That definitely is an awesome location!

Did you shoot everything f8?

The images seem pretty bland in terms of finish.
The couple for the most part seem to be forced or at least it gave me that impression.

Heh. With the exception of #2, the guy's head is always turned away from you.

I agree with previous posts except for posing. Looks fine to me. I would add that the flash work is well....harsh.

There is also a place outside of Georgetown that looks like this.

Rather than give individual critiques on these images, I thought I'd point out an area that I think could use the most improvement in these. After looking through them, they seem very stiff overall. Even on the ones where they're "moving", they look very stiff. I think you need to have them avoid 'holding' poses for more than a second or so. Don't have them pose until you're ready to shoot. And you need to be funny. Or be engaging. Use your personality to get some REAL expressions. A lot of these are good ideas, but the subjects just don't look like themselves. Maybe set them up like this then start talking with them. Loosen them up. That would be a huge improvement in my opinion...

Oh, and no more peeking around things please

*SIGH*...

Wasn't what I wanted to hear, and yet it was exactly what I wanted to hear. At least I now know some things to improve upon.

My humble opinion is that this highlights the value of a good workshop & critiques- the most useful posters gave specific recommendations on how to capture better images instead of just writing, "This looks awful".

Thanks, will try harder and hopefully have better images the next time around.
