Hi everyone!

As the title says, this is my first post. I hope you will enjoy the images. Thoses picture were taken in Cape Breton, NS, Canada.

To put you in context, I'll just say that I've been an amateur photographer for the last 10 years or so. I bought my first DSLR 10 months ago and I'm now in a learning process. I'm really open to CC so don't be shy.

Welcome Jean-Louis

Well glad to see you jump in and start sharing images. You are going to need to imbed them so they show up as images as it is too lengthy a process to click each link.
You have a few bird shots and several nice landscapes that could go to the landscape forum if you choose. I am liking the pair of Ravens/Crows with those large boulders and nice grasses..........and a a few water images are very nice too!

It never seems that one has a long enough lens at times to get closer to the birds but you captured a few for your start!
Take care
Karl

Welcome Jean-Louis. I like the first image, and #4 best. Karl had some good tips. You will improve lots by just studying the images you like best to determine why you like them. Then try to emulate those photos. And keep asking questions and reading etc, and of course you should keep on shooting.

Welcome Jean-Louis ! Lovely first posting. Looks like a beautiful place .
1, 3 and 4 are my favorites. I feel you could crop some from the left side of the first shot to put the bird more as the focal point, but just a suggestion

There are some great folks here who are very willing to help. Look forward to more from you.

Welcome aboard Jean-Louis

I do like the first as it shows the guillemot in the context of its environment. It always amazes me that these guys can land in such a place! Excellent advice has been offered already, I'll just second it

Welcome... I don't speak as an expert, but I have learned some things. One of them is very well illustrated by looking at your first two: See how it's more dynamic when the bird is looking into, rather than out of, the frame? The principle is that any living entities should, if they're moving, be moving toward the greater part of the frame, or if they're not moving, they should be looking toward it. In #3, all the birds are looking in the same direction, and it would have more impact if there was more space on the left in the direction they're looking. Just one of the "rules of thumb"...

You have a good point Ernie, I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty sure that 3. is a crop, I'll check and maybe recrop the original

Welcome Jean-Louis !

Just to reiterate what Ernie said about having the birds facing into space rather than the space behind them. A nice start but the golden rule of birding is 'Get Close' and when you think you are close enough 'Get Closer' !

Post more !
