Here is an HDR and Non-HDR and B&W versions of some skyline shots I took yesterday. I have a vision for this shot which has not yet come to be, but I am reasonably happy with what I got yesterday. I'm just going to have to keep going back until I get what I am looking for.

C&C welcome.

HDR

  NIKON D7000    24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 lens    48mm    f/11.0    100 ISO

Non-HDR

  NIKON D7000    24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 lens    48mm    f/11.0    1/6s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

B&W

  NIKON D7000    24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8 lens    48mm    f/11.0    1/6s    100 ISO    0.0 EV

I prefer the HDR image. It opens up the shadows between the buildings and is less contrasty. B&W works nicely too. Overall, nice capture.

Thanks ld. I have really been enjoying coverting the B&W lately. I am hoping that working in B&W will help give me a better understanding of content and composition.

I like the HDR version too. Lovely colors in both and that is why I can't enjoy the B&W after them.

I agree. I prefer the non-HDR image. The black & white image is very nice, too!

Nice shot. The cloud completes the composition for me. I prefer the more contrasty version. Contrast and dark shadows = good.

Non-HDR gets my vote.

The difference between the HDR and non- amounts to the non- version being a little cooler overall. Not convinced this particular time of day warrants a HDR rendering.

Anywho, the composition is a good one and the clouds complement the composition.

Why did you need HDR? Are you shooting RAW? It looks like some curve adjustment would produce a similar result with the non-HDR image.

I like all three very much, but the first image looks the best to my eyes. Nice image!

Thanks for all the comments.

I did try to play with my levels in the original file but wasn't able to get some of the highlight details in the clouds with the original that i was getting out of the hdr. The dfferences were very subtle but i was pretty happy with the that extra bit of detail in the clouds with hdr. I am relatively new to this so i am trying to approach things from diiferent angles to see what results i can get.

Just having fun experimenting and i very much appreciate everyones feed back on their preferences.

Nice image!

One thing I'd work on (in any version) is the buildings at the far right edge are the brightest thing in frame, and they pull my eye out of the picture. I'd be tempted to burn them in a little bit

I like the BW (but that's why I generally only post there.) Was that done from the non-HDR version? If so, did you try converted the HDR file to black and white.

Between the two color versions I have to go with the non-HDR. I think the clouds look more realistic, and I don't mind the shadows. In the HDR version the city looks great, but the clouds to me look too weighty.

It's a great perspective - I'm guessing you'll be back there soon.
