Would like recommendations on a light, but strong monopod that would hold a Canon 1DX and 400M f2.8 IS
without slipping. There are so many to choose from.
Thank you

I'd try the Feisol CM 1471 Rapid monopod,

http://www.feisol.net/feisol-monopod-cm1471-rapid-p-6.html

Your 400/2.8L IS + 1DX, on a RRS MH-01 monopod head, with a 2x TC and 600EX-RT flash would weigh in at about 8 kg. The CM 1471 max capacity is 11 kg. I use it with a 500/4L IS and the other stuff, for a total of about 6.5kg, and it's no problem.

sirui 424 monopod and rrs mh-02...rated 55# bot one for a friend
http://www.adorama.com/SIBSRP424.html?gclid=CISN28KC57gCFQsV7AodgxwAwQ

http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=MH-02-LR&type=0&eq=&desc=MH-02-LR%3a-Head-with-Indexing-LR-Clamp&key=it
mh-02 vs 01 difference is 02 operates w\o any hex key to switch head positions, nice piece of equiptment
sunway photo disc clamp with dovetail will do the same for less as well, know some that went that route

bot this for the 424 monopod sirui head L-10
http://www.amazon.com/Aluminium-L-10-Monopods-including-Release/dp/B006JZ7QZC/ref=pd_bxgy_p_text_y

for a friend: I bot the 424, l_10, then got a disc clamp panning base w\dovetail for the sirui L-10 to replicate my own rrs mh-02 setup......that 424 is as heavy duty as my rrs monopod mc-34

Just bought the Feisol CM 1471 Rapid monopod and the Really Right Stuff MH-02 Pro Head with Indexing Pro Clamp. I am really impressed. Got this head due to the ease of swapping from lens foot plate to camera plate that are at 90 degrees offset to one another(no hex key required, to lose).

I bought the Feisol and put a Kirk monopod head on it; LOVE it! I also have a buddy who bough the Feisol mono, and liked it so much he got the Feisol tripod too!

I used to own an aluminum Manfrotto, currently own an older Gitzo aluminum and have a 3-series CF Gitzo. I needed something really compact, so I just acquired a Sirui P326 CF monopod. Max height just over 60" (not the tallest), but collapses to under 15".

The Sirui blows the Gitzo pods out of the water in terms of quality for the price. It's <$100 USD. Compared to equivalent Gitzo's at >$300 USD.

Well worth a look.

I use the Canon 1DX with 400mm f/2.8L IS II lens and the Really Right Stuff MC-34 Monopod + MH-02 LR head. It is not an inexpensive monopod (neither is the camera and lens) but I would highly recommended it if it is in your budget.
