p.1 #1 · Meegan (inspired by Marilyn Monroe) (NSFW)

A small set of nudes that were taken back in June this year.

I got the idea from the classic shots of Marilyn Monroe on red velvet by Tom Kelly.

They are nicely done. However the "high key skin" does not work for my eyes. My feeling is that the skin tones should be rich - and that will also emphasize the ink - which I think would be appropriate.

Nicely done. However the red channel on the sheets looks completely blown on my monitor - there is very little detail (skin tones are also a little hot). I know this monitor oversaturates reds a bit, but usually not this much. Anyone else see that?

On my monitor red is waaay over-saturated. Skin is washed out.

Skin is really washed out. The whole setup hurt my eyes.

Thanks for the comments. The skin is actually not that washed out, as she is very pale, but i'll certainly revisit and pull back a bit to see if i can improve it. THe highlights weren't clipped, so i may have pushed them a bit far in post. I'll pull back the saturation on the bedsheet too, as i did pump it up a bit.

I've had a go at pulling them back. Nothing is clipped so all detail should be there. Improvement? Comments and suggestions apprectiated.

Hmmmm....the reds go super-saturated when i post to the web. Doesn't look like this side-by-side my photoshop version. I have no idea why this is... converted to sRGB for web...colour settings look ok... frustrating :/

bah...monitor profile was wrong. OK.... that explains super-saturation. Will revisit later as time for zz.....

It looks over lit. I think that's what's giving the blown out look.

Try a single light to one side very diffused (big soft box or just a sheet) it wold still give the bright look but add some shade across the body

Red is still a tad over saturated in post above (on my monitor), but it is definitely looking better!

I guess I'm old-fashioned but I think trying to recreate this iconic image using a model with tattoos doesn't work for me - it's like taking a can of spray paint and touching up statues in a museum.

Simonwalden: That look isn't what i wanted - i did just do a shoot at the weekend with that set-up, but i didn't want the shadows/light fall-off that a single light would create on this one.

PennstBill: you've misunderstood. I'm not trying to recreate those images.

Thanks for the comments. I'll have to work on these images again with my colour profiles sorted out.
