can't answer your question, Bob, but can tell you that the headlight rim
is from a 1939, or 1940, or (?) 1941 Ford.
I like your collection and the shot.
regards, tom

Silly boy! Those are all AM radios - - and they only come in mono... !

I like the 2nd shot a lot... I like the balance - - it breaks the "don't line everything up and center it" rule... but I like it.

Thanks Tom,

Parts on shelves at OldCarCityUSA, location of the 'rust' series posted back in May.

I had no idea about the headlight trim.

Regards,

Bob

I was thinking of surround sound

First car "stereo" was an auxiliary FM multiplex tuner receiver that broadcast one channel over an unused FM freq so channel A went through the in-dash radio and channel B through the aux unit to probably the rear speaker(s). Balance was tricky. Then, for hi-end listening, you could couple in a reverb unit (mechanical (spring delay)) that seldom worked properly.

Net result: three separate gadgets, yards of wires, all individually controlled, in car to listen to music, if you could hear it over the rumbles from the Hooker Headers and straight flow Thrush glasspack mufflers. Sweet!

Glad you like the second shot. Thanks for looking any commenting.

Klaus,

Thank you for your kind words. The second image was an add-on, the first has greater depth and presence for me.

-Best,

Bob

Thanks Ray,

Static? Oh yes, and huge areas without signal once away from the city on long trips.

Or, KMOX out of St. Louis late in the evenings if lucky and the atmosphere is 'right'

Bob

I've been a ham operator since I was first licensed back in the 60s while in high school... There were 3 of us... always broke but willing to build our own equipment, and we would take & haul away anything electronic to salvage for parts. One day, we got our hands on a mechanical reverb from an old recording studio - - it was 3 or 4 long chambers - - I think the longest was about 8 feet or so - - mounted on a metal frame. Each chamber had a transducer at each end and a spring running the length. Each chamber provided the reverberation for a different frequency spectrum. It was very cool and it worked!

Thanks for bringing back that great memory... the picture and your history...

Happy to oblige

To me, a little back-story helps take away the WTH prompted that ? Good times, good memories, did some really stupid things - lucky to be alive - today I'd be in jail... home-made rockets were our passion, propellants and all. They go by different names today.

I skipped the 4- and 8-tracks, went to cassette, many of which had the tape eaten by the capstan roller.
