p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 7D2 late 2014 now? (despite re-using 70D sensor?)

http://www.canonrumors.com/

Wow that really is sort of surprising and as well that it will re-use the 70D sensor (of which Canon hasn't made even a peep about improved DR, it's all been talk about adding dual-phase; of course dual-phase would be a cool feature for a 7D2).

What could delay the 7D2 until latter 2014 if it will use the same sensor as the 70D? They've had 5D3/1DX AF tech ready for ages now. Etc.

Vague suggestion that the high MP cam will also be late 2014 at best with only yet another new low-priced 6D sort of creation for early 2014.

If they had at least said it would use a sensor different than the one in the 70D then you could at least say OK well they are just waiting until they redo the sensor line and really can match Exmor and everything else. But now I wonder a bit.

(someone did say that in the Asian markets there was some mention of new DR for the 70D, but if true, why would the US market totally ignore and hide that?)

Anyway with the same sensor I sure don't see how they could simply plop in 7D AF (only with area and spot left on unlike with the 70D) so, if true, I think this would be final proof it will have at least 5D3-class AF and at least 10fps and probably 12fps.

It sounds like strange stuff (such a long delay and still no talk about sensor with improved image quality and the big MP FF becoming even more mysterious), but his CR2 info usually is pretty reliable, I don't know.

There is still no D400, so I'm not convinced there will ever be a 7D II or whatever. The D71000 and 70D may be all we get.

Well, D400 is sorta needed.

Im not sure Canon shooters would like "another 7D" which would be almost same, just with on sensor AF.

I think users want a better sensor, but Canon prefers to sell us on nonsense that they think we need more. It's like the stupid Win 8 GUI, the Abode CC, etc.

By 2014 it would be 5 years since the 7D's sensor. They can build huge factories in China with many thousands of workers in less time that that.

You haven't known Canon for long?

Simple reason: To wait until the sale of 70D starts to decline.

Don't forget that 70D hasn't been shipped yet. So, no need for Canon to rush anything.

That's a good point. When I read how "good" the 70D was, I realized that Canon will not release a high-end crop for a while. They would undercut too many sales of the 70D.

What do you mean by 'delay'? Is there a requirement to release cameras at a certain rate? Did Canon promise a new camera in an official release and now they are backing away from those promised dates?

Do you actually mean 'a long period of time between camera models'??

There is still no crop camera that performs like a 7d...

But haven't you noticed that you current 7D isn't performing as well as it did last year

Those looking for a "pro-level" crop to replace the 7D or even 1D series won't be satisfied with a 70D. So I don't see how the 70D affects sales in this category. Aren't these two different categories of buyer?
It might come down to Canon thinking that the 1Dx replaces the 1Ds and 1D lines and the 70D replaces both the xD and xxD lines with the 5D3 somewhere in between.
For me this would be a shame because I would buy an improved 7D, but definitely not a 70D.

'VIDEO'

Did Canon not make themselves clear as they repackaged their 18mb sensor with better and different AF configurations, with badder, better, bigger LCD screens, adding more audio as well, 'Touch' as well...it's beta testing, get it, give the masses what they crave, new toys.

As for us 'STILLS' shooters, we are a newly dying breed, the new dinosours, the viewfinder we were suckled on has not gotten better, will not except for on high-end models...for a while Other than 'REAL' photographers and lovers of the still image as 'ART', those that understand light, depth of field, etc. 'NO ONE CARES'.

The rest just want a 'PICTURE' or a 'MOVING PICTURE' on the cheap and the cellphone's camera is getting better every day. Romance for the 'ART' we know as photography is going 'BYE-BYE'.

We are not Canon's focus, not listened to...much anymore, we are now on the other end of the 'TEASE'.

Enjoy the art, the gear in hand...tech will continue to dribble out for us...best get you video editing skills up to snuff...cause that's where future still will soon be born from.

Shit happens, do the masses actually know what a painting is, how it hangs, looks outside a LCD screen...how many enjoy or remember sculpture, architecture, boat building...or give it a flying...glance!

Megapixel count, DR...in the movies folks, oh sorry videos

Remember...

Given the 70D specs, I'd think that for starters the 7D would minimally need to offer:

Frame rate of 10fps
Same or better video AF than 70D
Better still shot AF than 70D (maybe as good as 5D3)
Slightly higher pixel density (maybe 22-24mp)

Keep the price under $2K.

The 60D and 7D were differentiated on features, not MP. I don't think most people are looking for higher MP when they are choosing between the 7dII and 70D. They will want better AF, more advanced features, better build quality, etc.

To me, it makes sense that they will use the same or similar sensor as the 70D.

I have to admit, when I bought my 7D upon release in 2009....I didn't think I'd have over 100k clicks on it before a replacement came out....by the time the MKII shows up I'll be to the point where a new shutter is in need...
