Always tricky when one selectively colors a B&W print. Some hate it on principle, but more important is the decision of what the color emphasizes. At the risk of being denounced as unpatriotic, my first response is that highlighting the flag is - for want of a better word - rather trite. For me the power in this photo would have come from somehow very subtlety bringing up the eternal green of say the trees. Also, I'd suggest you consider the cropping. The trunk at bottom right pulls the eye from the scene, and if the flag is your key element nothing draws the eye to it. An interesting experiment. You should try more.
Obviously this is just one man's perception.
