p.1 #1 · D70s under exposed with magenta in highlights.

My D70s has started having a problem. When I make an exposure using it meter, it is two or three stops under exposed. When I compensate for the under exposure, it ends up with pink/magenta hue, especially in the highlights.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on and what to do about it?

I will attach a sample so you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks,
Tom B.

No actual idea what is happening, but I would imagine that it's dead/dying.

Do you have it on auto-wb? Maybe try resetting the camera to defaults.

Had WB set to daylight. But agree it may be dying.

What colour space are you working in?

Does it do the same in spot meter mode?

I checked using Opanda. You are set to "Manual" white balance. Try going to auto white balance.

Color Space? Well I shot in Raw, processed the to 8 bit JPG in I assume RGB. I say processed, but I for the most part this is how it looked out of the camera, I did not change it in processing.

The white balance was set to the preset for Daylight.
I will try both Auto and Manual white balance and different meter modes.

I am afraid it is something more serious than white balance or exposure, was hoping someone has had a similar occurrence and possible resolution before I give up and retire the camera for parts.

Thanks for all your help.

tbertram please slow down on the amount of your posts.
4.8 posts per year is really starting to get excessive.

I had a nikon P&S do exactly that a few years ago, minus the underexposing. Anything that was blow out (highlights) would turn pink-magenta instead of white. Awful as hell.

I just dumped that P&S ...

I recently had a Canon PowerShot do the exact same thing. The highlights suddenly turned "pink" as well, instead of white. Had the camera for many years and it definitely died. Never using it again. And FYI - I have a D70s as well, which hasn't died yet, luckily. If I see that pink thing happen, I will know it's the end.
