Might need to think about that a bit longer

Yeah, it becomes kind of a semantic issue. Manual mode meaning you set both shutter speed and aperture, yet auto ISO turns it into a type of auto-exposure mode. What we mean is that it would still be nice to be able to dial in a greater or lesser exposure by EC, which the camera would have to effect by changing the ISO from what it meters as the "correct" ISO for the shutter speed and aperture we have chosen.

By the way, I can report that the new firmware hasn't "bricked" my 1D3 and 1D4, and AF seems unaltered. I can't say anything about non-OEM batteries, because I don't have any.

A salute to the brave amongst us. I'll go ahead and do the update. Has anyone noticed any improvements and/or changes other than the two mentioned by Canon?

I got notification of this from CPS yesterday. Has anyone downloaded it yet?

Canon has released a firmware update available for download at www.usa.canon.com to resolve the following issues:

1. Resolves the following phenomenon: when the camera is not attached to a lens, power consumption may be higher than usual, causing premature battery drain.

2. Resolves a phenomenon in which an error code may be displayed when the shutter is released without a lens attached.

Please click or copy and paste the link into your browser provided below to access and download the new Firmware updates for the following products:

I had a firmware upgrade issue with my old 1D MkII and I'm wondering if the same problem will crop up with this latest firmware for my 1D MKIV. I use the voice record feature at lot for events. With the original firmware on the MKII I could record to the time limit and then press the record button again to continue recording for the same file. Once I installed the upgrade, I could only record for 30 seconds total, no more. I confirmed this change with Canon and there was nothing they could do to restore the original recording parameters. Before I install this latest upgrade on my MkIV, I want to make sure that won't happen again. I'd appreciate it if someone could check that out for me?

Thanks,
Merrill

From the Canon site you see when you use the above 1DsIII link:

"Firmware Version 1.2.3 is for EOS-1Ds Mark III cameras with firmware Version 1.2.2 or earlier. If your camera’s firmware is already Version 1.2.2, it is not necessary to update the firmware."

First sentence seems to say 1.2.3 is for use with 1.2.2 (or earlier). Second sentence seems to say it isn't for use with 1.2.2. Am I missing something?

Obvious misprint.....

You select M mode and select Auto-ISO. Simple. I would pay for a firmware upgrade with the option to use EC while in M and Auto-ISO. I agree with the others, I just don't see why Canon can't simply program this in.

But it would not be M mode if you had auto

I'm having problems with the 1D3 tethered. When using with XP no issues, but it drops connection after a couple of shots when using on my Win 7 laptop. The Win 7 is 64 bit, by the way.

Anyone have experienced this and know if this update may help?

I used to experience dropout with windows XP, but only if the camera was allowed to sleep and only if I was using third party software to tether with. Canon EOS Utility never had a problem.

Since you asked this question I decided to test my mkIII with Win7 64-bit. I tested tethered shooting about an hour with no dropout issues using EOS Utility version 2.12.0.0 and 1DmkIII firmware 1.3.2

Updated firmware on my 1DsmkIII, 1DmkIII, and both mkIV's without issue.

I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that all my custom functions remained intact.

All batteries are OEM, so no issues there either.

Ken,
Thanks for responding. I'm using EDD too and never tried to shoot to a hot folder. I'll check my version of Canons EOS Utility tonight and give that a try. Much appreciated!
Tom
