I have an out-of-warranty 1D Mark III with firmware 1.2.5 and I'm not experiencing any problems. I also don't own a 200-400L lens so I can see no practical reason to fix something that is already working perfectly for me. I don't own non-Canon branded batteries, but if anyone does, be aware that the firmware update may make your batteries stop communicating power and charge status information.

Good for Canon for updating the firmware on an older but quite capable product(s)

Anyone know if this version of the 1Ds3 firmware has 'corrected' the last one which disabled all my non-OEM batteries?

"No good undead goes punished?"
At least that no-good Undine went unpunished.
We should promote this thread over the other one, because so far no one has mentioned the issue of 3rd party ba...
um, didn't mean to say that, never mind.

How do you like that - I try to quote Jim Colwell, and find he's deleted his post. Didn't know we could even do that anymore.

Sorry, Jess. I thought it was just too funny for FM - apologies.

So what brave and hearty soul is going to go first, and if she or he survives reports back what - if anything - the updates do to the cameras. (I've got both the MK IV and the 1DsIII.)

I downloaded the fw right away, but my 1D3 and 1D4 are in the middle of battery calibration cycling, so it'll have to wait awhile. I haven't had any problems, but I always figure there's a chance of some unstated improvement (and I ignore the chance of a newly introduced problem), so I update fw whenever I can. I'll keep you posted.

Why would that be the case now?

I'm waiting for FW 2.0 for the 1D IV

Addresses the following issues:

Auto ISO in M mode is no longer broken
spot AF is available for any lens

That would indeed be nice. By "Auto ISO in M mode is no longer broken" I assume you mean we should be able to dial in exposure comp, which with any fixed ISO level is superfluous in M (IMO), but in auto ISO becomes important. That would be a nice update for 1D3 and 1DX as well.

Yes. Very annoying that Canon won't listen to the users about this. Would take about 5 minutes to fix.

If you are in manual mode, how do you have auto=anything? You're in manual!

You select M mode and select Auto-ISO. Simple. I would pay for a firmware upgrade with the option to use EC while in M and Auto-ISO. I agree with the others, I just don't see why Canon can't simply program this in.
