I am wanting to do some off camera flash with my SB800's and Nikon D5100. I can set the SB800's in SU4 mode and fire them with fireing the pop-up flash on my camera. What options are there for doing wireless without having to fire the pop-up flash. I'm guessing radio/infrared control?

I assume you mean without having to use the pop-up. There are several options:

You can use one of the Speedlights on camera as the Commander.

You can use one of the Speedlights connected to the camera with an iTTL cord.

You can trigger both Speedlights off camera with an SU-800 Commander or clone on the camera.

You can use various radio triggers, with the model (and price) varying depending on what functions you need.

One option many people aren't aware of is to use the pop-up, but place the Nikon SG-3IR Panel in front of it so it isn't visible in the shot. For $12 it's a good first step to try.

Yes I meant, without having to fire the popup flash, and have both SB800's off camera.. I had seen the SG-3IR perhaps I'll look into that. It looks like lots of radio triggers and such. I'm not much on buying Chinese equipment if possible. Thanks for your reply!!

Likewise, but it seems to become more and more unavoidable all the time.

(Back in my bodyguard days I was in charge of security transportation for the Hong Kong delegates to the WTO meeting in Seattle, and I really wanted to wear a "China: Stop The Genocide" or "Free Tibet!" button to work, but I decided it would be unprofessional.)
