No that's not normal and I'd imagine they really messed somehting up. From the time mine was dropped off at Fedex, to being returned was about 10 days, including the weekend. Sigma repair IMO is much better than Nikon.

I figured I'm the exception, but the canned response I keep getting is:

July 16, 2013

"Hello again,

Sorry for the delay but we're having problems with the rewriting tool and are addressing the matter with Sigma. We hope to clear the backlog in these lenses in the coming week.

Regards,

Brian."

"Hello,

We just received the upgrading tool to reprogram these lenses. We should be able to complete it in the coming week."

Now don't get me wrong, I understand they're having issues -- but they've been telling me the same damn excuse for 1.5 months now.

I love this lens... and I damn well want to use it, but its been in service for longer than I had a chance to use it!

Did you send it to Sigma or to a third party repair place?

If you do, the dock will fix it.

I sent it to the company on Sigma's warranty page (Gentec International). It seems like Sigma Canada outsources their services to them..

I'm an NPS member and have had only good experiences with them, but still, there are plenty of horror stories about their service as well. I don't buy my gear based on the service reputation of the manufacturer (which is impossible to accurately know anyway). If it breaks in busy season, I'll have another one at my door in two days with Amazon Prime, which I can resell later when I get mine back from repair. I buy my gear based on what gives me the best images, and the Sigma 35 absolutely gives me better images than the Nikon 35/1.4G.

It's a USB dock that connects to Sigma lenses

the AF keeps up quite well on dark wedding reception dance floors

Would you say it keeps up as well the 35L and 35G?

Sigma 35 on D3S keeps up better than the 35G on a D3S.

For dark wedding dance floors I'd rather have Sigma 35 on any FX Nikon than 35L on a 5DII, which is the last Canon combo I used before switching, but that's more due to the body's AF than the lens. I can't comment on the 35L on a 5DIII or 1DX, that might be superior.

That was my main concern: how it works when the light gets low. Sounds like it's pretty good!

I used to have a Sig 50/1.4. Not very accurate auto-focus in servo/AF-C even in good light. In lower light, in one-shot/AF-S, it would sometimes hunt and give up on focus. Overall probably worse focusing accuracy than any lens I've ever used. When it hit it was good but had lots of misses.

Mine continues to shine on both the D7100 and the D800.....so much so that I sold my 24/1.4.

My Sigma 35/.4 is 90% of time on D800. It is quite stunning actually.
