Sometimes "grab shots" that are kind of messy wind up being some of my favourites. I love it when there is order in the chaos of mother nature.

I snapped this one while wandering around the eastern slope of the Andes one morning in Ecuador. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea. But I liked it :-)

The view of the bird is very nice--unobstructed and a good pose. The shot give an idea of the environment, which I like. It's the first time I've laid eyes on a blue and black tanager, so that's really good. Thanks for posting.

There is order and balance in that "mess" Glenn. The branches and leaves seem to all be in a narrow plane, limited in space in the frame, and not detracting from the bird in any way (more the opposite, almost gathering your view and bringing it to the bird). Nice image!
