Thanks Bart, Tim, 3iron, Steve, Tira, Jim and Ray.
This was taken about a dozen years ago. Some of us had old 4X4s (mine was an Isuzu Trooper II) and we'd go exploring the surrounding desert dirt roads. There were gates to keep cattle from destroying the wrong government land- and we always closed the gates behind us.
We drove to the dry river bed, followed the track down the bed to within 1/4 mile of the hoodoos, and walked the rest of the way. We came in from the northwest.
Be not dismayed: in all our explorations, we NEVER made our own tracks. We drove existing dirt roads and tracks, and then hiked from there. We also walked carefully so as to not disturb the microbiotic crust any more than necessary.
These hoodoos were among the best places we explored.
