p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Hitech 85 on a Sigma 10-20

So I'm looking at options for a Grad ND filter for my Sigma 10-20 and have really been considering the Hitech system. My only concern is can I get by with the Hitech 85? I would prefer not to have vignetting when at the 10-12 range. If I got the "wide angle" ring would it remove the chance of vignetting?

Has anyone had any experience with the Hitech 85 on a Sigma 10-20?

Thanks

F

I have the 85 on my 18-55 and I've had vignette at 18 (sometimes; I think if it's not 100% straight it's an issue). I think if you get the 2 instead of 3 filter holder you might be ok for a few more mm.

How about going for the 100 system?

I don't mind the 100, I was just hoping to save a bit of money for the 85. I picked up a tiften ht 77mm grad nd earlier this week. While not as versatile, it was half off on e-bay for a lightly used one. I'll try it for now and maybe pick up the 100 once I have some extra funds.

I've owned both the Canon 10-22 and the Hitech 85 filter holder with two slots. It will vignette quite heavily around the 10-12mm mark.

I realised this morning that mine vignetted when I had a UV filter on as well at 18mm, but as David said it will certainly start showing up at the widest end.

I wouldn't do it, even on a crop cam I think 15-17mm would be pushing it. I recently made the switch from the 85mm system to the 100mm system (Hitec to Lee), and would not consider going back. The 100mm system just gives you more room to play with, not just vig'ing but the horzion placement and rotation.
