p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · CF Card Recommendations? For Canon 5D MK2 & MK3

Although I'm doing fine with what I've got **don't laugh**
(San Disk Extreme III CF 30 MB/S 8GB Cards & San Disk Ultra II CF 15mb/s 4GB Cards)
I'm looking to beef up what I'm using.

Please explain to me why having faster cards really matter and which cards you'd recommend.

I'm not currently shooting any video, just stills. Shorter weddings under 6 hours and fine art photography. Haven't maxed out my cards yet.

What cards 32GB or less would you recommend- Compact Flash only.

Thanks!

Not a whole lot faster stuff than the Extreme III's in the Mk3. They don't benefit from the newer UDMA cards much if at all. The ExIII just about max out the buffer and right speed. I don't know about the 5D.

I use the Sandisk 32 GB Extreme Pro 90mb/s . The write speed is important when shooting sports or wildlife images where there is movement and I want to capture a sequence of all of that and not overload the buffer in my camera. When shooting weddings, portraits, seniors, etc. I use 8 GB Extreme 1V 45 mb/s write speed and have had no issues with waiting for the buffer to write. I am off to Alaska again in 2 weeks for Humpback whales in a skiff and I will be using the Canon 1DX with 2 Sandisk 32GB Extreme Pro CF for capturing the breaches, etc. and at 12 FPS with that camera the write speed is very important. Hope that helps you.

If it's the 5DmkIII you talk about? Then it benefits from fast and new UDMA cards
