p.1 #1 · Tile App could be useful in finding lost gear...

http://www.thetileapp.com

Saw this today, clearly they've got a pretty good crowd sourcing campaign going....could be a good way to slip one in your bag, and if it happens to go missing, it may help you find it...and beat the living crap out of someone. j/k j/k of course...

Thieves are smart. You'll find your tile in a garbage can.

well, that's true, but you could also hide it within the bag lining, within the foam of a pelican case....just a thought....

And also, a lot of thieves are dumb asses.....

could stitch it in a bag, or make a compartment under stuff in a pelican, could paint it make it look like nothing speical. I think its awesome, i mean for the price its worth a try! Cheap insurance is better than no insurance!

Stick it to your daughter.

*edit* or gf/wife, if applicable. Tile doesn't discriminate.

I pledged for three. I couldn't tell exactly what the limitations are -- it's not a GPS device that can transmit independently, it's something less than that. So it may be utterly useless, but I threw the dice.

I'll let you know how well they work after they arrive.

No thanks. You have to replace them every year. There's a version, StickNFind, that has a user replaceable battery.

srclark: you're joking, right?

To be honest I really want some. Not so much for if things get stollen though.

I'd really love to have one on each item of gear. Then at the end of the night fire up the app and make sure everything is in my camera bag. I'm always forgetting things!

That's really a good use. I like that idea a lot.

I hadn't. Thanks for the heads up on that. I had only heard of them on a Macrumors dicussion for the Tile device and someone mentioned these as being better since you could replace the battery.

I'm still annoyed with notion of having to replace every Tile device each year and what if some of the devices don't last the entire year, or if some of the devices last longer than a year. Is there a way to see what the battery life status is for each device via the app?

Imagine you're using it for the idea you had of keeping track of gear and one goes dead on a gig and you forget to count it and leave it by accident.

I pack my bags so that each compartment has an item, and if a compartment is empty, I'll put something light in it. That way, when I leave, I can visually see if all the compartments are filled.
