p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · blue tarp wedding lighting worry

Hi all,
Im shooting a farm wedding this weekend, and the reception will be under a very large blue tarp canopy. I'm worried about the lighting from the sun casting a nasty blue shade on them. I'm not intending on bringing studio lights but will have multiple speedlights and will shoot in raw. You comments as to how to handle this would be much appreciated!

Won't help unless it's opaque.

This is an ugly situation.

what are the chances you can explain your concern and get the blue tarp changed out? I just can't picture that working in your favor.

No chance on changing the tarp. My only thought was to use direct flash and overpower the blue sunlight. Or black and white...

Give everyone a white hat and white pants for a Smurf theme.

How much do you like post-processing if the whole scenery is in blue, make you flash light blue with a filter and then correct everything to the white balance that suits you.

If you happen not to use the flash and you see all bluish just leave it bluish, dont we just give expression to what we see as a photographer

As mentioned B&W would be a great work around though crying would be the best one what am I saying a photographer never cries but adjusts, modifies, clones, overheats the computer ... whatever ...

I'm with Ed except I may not gel the lights. I only gel when there are tungsten lights in the venue that I don't want turning too orange. As long as you put correct color light on the subjects, the rest will look fine.

Cross light the dance floor, add a back light if you have a third light, move your lights around as needed. You'll be fine

Ugh, I've shot under green shadecloth before and it's not pretty. Flash or B&W. Or find a tarp, set it up and see if you can find a lighting arrangement that works
