Hasselblad Stellar RX100 announced

Hasselblad announced "Stellar", a luxury version of the popular Sony RX100. With its metallic body and several choices of exotic grip material, including carbon fiber and padouk wood, the compact RX100-type Stellar offers the same 28-100mm equivalent Zeiss-branded zoom and 20MP 1"-type Sony sensor.

Stellar is the second partnership with Sony, following the announcement of the NEX-7-based Hasselblad Lunar. It's scheduled to launch on July 26th for between $1,600 to $3,200.

For more images and specifications on the new Hasselblad Stellar, checkout its dedicated website.

That looks like a tumor on an otherwise attractive camera.

Reminds me of kitchen knife, might look good on the $5000 chopping block accessory.

Leica does the same thing with Panasonic so I guess Sony/Hasselblad decided to jump on this gravy train.

Ugly, if you are going to do it and charge this much, at least make it look good. Jeesh.

Wow, this is really tempting, just as the Hasselblad Lunar was. But I think I'm going to hold out in hopes of the rumored full frame, interchangeable lens version. I suspect they'll use moon rock in lieu of the wood accents used on the Lunar and Stellar, in a subtle yet luxurious nod to the rich Hasselblad lineage.

And they only have to plunder exotic woods from three untouched rainforests!

Put me down for ten!

____

After the Hasselblad Lunar 'Debacle' at Photokina 2012... You would *** THINK *** that they would of learned their 'Lesson'. Hmmm... Apparently NOT!!!
--
Perhaps, the Lunar is selling so poorly... That they thought that this less than 'Stellar' news -- Would make up for it!

You'd think if they were going to charge 3x the price of the base camera for a slightly different outer shell, they'd at least make the body and lens the same color. The stupid part about these ridiculous Hasselblad versions is that they're not even integrated camera changes...it's not like it's the guts of the Sony put in a Hassy frame....it is literally an add-on shell plopped onto the Sony body.

Anyone who buys one of these needs to seek professional help.

The ultimate statement in styling or form over function, this (along with the price) is even more laughable than the last attempts -- which I presume didn't sell very well.

The sad thing is, it doesn't even look very good. The grip looks tacked-on, like it was added at the last minute rather than designed as a cohesive part of the whole. Distinctive, at least, but not in a good way.
