If you could choose a full frame, which one? For portraits, head shots (modeling portfolios), families, kids, etc.

-Canon 5D Mark II
-Nikon D700
-Canon 6D
-Nikon D600

Would be using with 50mm and 85mm.

Thanks!

How much money are you putting into lenses? Unless you are planning on the Canon 85/1.2, I'd go with the D600.

Nope, the 1.2 waaaay out of my price range. Just the 1.8 version of both.

I have the D600 with both the 50 and 85 lenses, and I am very pleased. The 85 is just awesome, one of the best I've used for the money. I shot Canon for about 10 years and also had both the 50 and 85 in that flavor, and frankly they aren't as good. The D700 is also supposed to be good, but, I like the extra resolution of the D600 -- especially since I had the original 5D.

Nikon is generally a great choice for the low-mid end of the FF/FX range. Even a used D700 would be enough for your listed needs.

I'd go with the 6D or 5D2 as I didn't get along with Nikon and found the Canon controls and menus more intuitive.

+1

yeah, don't know about the others, but I've felt the need to buy new Nikon lenses since having my d700 but have yet to feel the need to find something to improve upon the body

I decided to get the Canon 6D. Will also get the Sigma 50mm 1.4 to go with it.

I would be leaning towards a Nikon D600/D700 as the 1.8g lens series of 28mm, 50mm, and 85mm are pretty good for the price.
