p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · switching from nex to m43 because of better ~50mm ?

im a fan of 40-50mm lens.
now i have a nex7 with sony 35mm 1,8 lens but find the lens good but boring somehow.
the new touit is also so lala in my eyes.

no it did look around and found the m43 especialy with the leica 35mm 1,4 on the om-d or the panasonic G6 very interesting.
also the other lens around look fine, the 45mm, some WA zooms ...

did any body switch from nex to m43?
what are the experience?
regards

I came to NEX from M43, with a FF detour inbetween. I do miss the Panasonic 25/1.4, that lens is fantastic....

BUT- I don't miss focus by wire. I shoot mostly manual focus adapted primes, and there are several things I prefer about the NEX. The larger sensor makes it possible to actually have a decent 50 equivalent quite easily and somewhat affordably, vs needing a 24/25 on M43... On M43 the PanLeica is so good, there is no point in getting any other 25ish mm lens.

I can only guess you are looking for a native AF lens?
I have the FujiFilm X-E1 and LOVE my Fujinon FX 35/1.4

i don't have one on the NEX that comes close to the PanLeica, but I have two choices for 50 equivalent that I already owned:

Nikon 35/2 AIS with normal adapter
Nikon 50/1.4 AIS with speed booster type adapter

Neither of these is a class favorite or anything, but I like their style and they are cheap lenses with focusing in the right direction and a hard infinity stop.
I prefer those features than what the PL25 gave me- which was killer optics and nice size/build... but I deplore focus-by-wire.

I like the 35/1.2 CV on nex.

Fast, sharp (for a 1.2, before someone comes running to tell me that compared to their f/4 macro, it isn't very sharp WO.. ) and reasonably small.

This is how the combo looks:

Not bad, Ulrikft2- it's about the size of my 50/1.4+LensTurbo.
When/If i pick up another M mount camera, I'll get another CV 35/1.4 Nokton, and get an adapter to use it on NEX. I think that'd be nice!

I am a great fan of the 50mm focal length. In the past i have owned many of them : Canon 50 1.8, Canon 50 1.4, Canon 50L, Zeiss 50 1.4 ze, Sigma 50 1.4. No one of them can compete with the one i have now (which is actually a 35), the Fujinon 35 1.4 especially in wide open sharpness!

I hate to say it, and I hate to bring the thread here- but no <50mm lens is better at being a 50mm than a 50mm.
A fast 50 on FF or speed booster type adapter is just something that can't be matched. The combination of FoV and DoF with a 50 on FF/Speed Booster is something you can't get elsewhere. A fast 25 or 35, no matter how fast, doesn't have the same look.... Which is why no matter what 25-35mm primes are available, I'll try to shoot my 50's as 50's, on a Speed Booster/Lens Turbo.

The problem with the SB and shallow DoF, IMO is that you're just heaping on chromatic aberrations and it doesn't seem to really go away. There's also the fact you're adding optics which probably kills the finer micro-contrast of the lens.

I've switched from NEX to m43, but it wasn't the lenses that made me switch, but rather the body. I needed something that was a better tripod body and also handled better with larger lenses, the OM-D with a grip beat the NEX-7 soundly in those categories.

The Leica 25/1.4 is a real gem, and considering the price differential between it and the Touit 32/1.8, also a value leader. That said, I really do miss my ZA E 24/1.8, which also was a gem.

In terms of lenses, m43 definitely has a better selection, particularly in higher-end glass. NEX has the basics, but only the Zeiss glass is really standout (the Sigma trio are superb values and quite good optically, but not what I'd call world-class).

Note you are looking at essentially the same DoF and performance as the Voigtlander 35/1.2 on NEX. The extra 2/3rds of a stop is nice, but not really a win given the difference in sensor performance.

Eh... I think I'd rather shoot with the OM-D + Grip than a NEX-7 even if the NEX-6 has focus peaking. The OM-D gets you 5-axis IBIS and if I recall, the Voight 25mm 0.95 maybe a bit better than the Voight 35mm 1.2? I might be remembering that wrong.

The sensor difference is surprisingly not much especially if you account for IBIS.

The Voigt 35 1.2 is one of the best 35s around. I'd rather shoot a NEX-6 with that than the OM-D + 25/.95 option, since IBIS doesn't really give me much advantage in the way that I shoot.

Personally, as a current OM-D and former NEX-7 user, I'd pick the NEX for the Voigt lens, IBIS is nice, but it's a heck of a lot easier to focus with the 7 between focus peaking, the higher-resolution EVF and the better located magnification button (OM-D has no option for magnification anywhere near as conveniently located as the AF/MF button on the 7).
