p.1 #1 · Any tips on increassing speed during import using LR5

I have been using LR4 and the speed in which it loaded on import was fast.

After installing LR5 , it has decreased in speed considerably. Have set to minimal as I did on LR4

Anyone else experiencing this. Is there any settings in prefrences that may need to be unchecked.

Thanks for your time.

Turn off the Smart Previews if you don't have any need to edit the photos offline.

Thanks for the tip, but I never had "smart previews" on 4 and now 5. I was aware of that.

Do you have Lr save the catalog and optimise it when you exit Lr ?

From the testing I did a few weeks ago, there is practically no difference between LR 4 and 5 in speed terms. So if you have the same import settings ticked it might not be LR.

Are you saving the files over a network, or do you have network attached drives that are slow to respond? (LR may try to ping all connected drives in the import module).

Are you sure your CF card and reader or hard disk haven't chosen now to go bad?

I switched from LR 4-5 and noticed no difference in import speed. I have 2011 MBP 2.3ghz i5 with 16gb and LR was never that fast on the import. I use PhotoMechanic 5 to ingest, browse, select and caption images and then transfer them to LR 5. PhotoMechanic 5 is way, way faster in this respect.

BTW, do you have "Automatically write changes into XMP" on in Catalog Settings?
