Here's a few shots from my back deck where I had a nearby bluejay nest in a cedar tree and 4 new groundhog babies from underground. The front door revealed a mama black bear with her 3 cubs. It took mom all of 45 seconds to knock over a bear proof trash can, unthread the lid counterclockwise and then grab the first trash bag.

Cool set Herb. "Smarter than your average bear" appears to be an appropriate comment here. Or maybe I should say, "Smarter than your average human." The little jays have that cute/ugly baby appeal and the hog is a nice shot, but the bears steal the show.

And to think, in my home state!
Those chicks are great with wonderful detail.
The presence of the bears is, I imagine, an increasingly frequent if disturbing situation.

Wonderful to see bears in their natural environment, Herb! And, those blue jays...man, I didn't think it was possible to get so close, but then I also didn't think it was possible to put a teleconverter on an 800! Terrific set, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks Scott. The presence of bears is on a slight upswing recently, but the last two years were not due to several bear hunts in 2011 and 2012.
