I laughed at the cheesecake! Everything about this set screams being at the ballpark in a way I've never been, and that's awesome. My favorites are 3, 4, 5 and 6. The natural framing of #1 is pretty cool too.

@kris, thanks! That impression he made on the right field wall went away fast.

Russ, thanks, I couldn't resist the cheesecake! She is one of the "energy squad" girls who entertain the crowd during pregame and the 7th inning stretch, throw out t-shirts, etc. She had a night off and got a free ticket, so she stopped by the photo well to chat us up and see if one of the players would throw her a baseball. They threw her A LOT of looks at first, then she got the baseball, of course.
As for 3, 4, 5, 6, who could resist those clouds in 5 & 6, or those quiet moments alone that you never see on TV?

Nice stuff.

Did you shoot the 6/27 game? Just wonder if I "caught" you in my gopro video....

Jon,
Nope you missed me for sure, I only had the 6/26 game vs the Halos. Good thing too, I hate getting caught on TV, or video, my face is made for BEHIND the camera only.

I hear ya. Have you ran into Mark Cunningham?

Great guy....really enjoyed meeting him, eating lunch with him, and hearing about his work with the Tigers.

Steven...these are great shots. Nice timing on #1 and it looks like he's stuck there with velcro.
#5 is my favorite and maybe consider a recrop or clone out the thin sliver of the building on the upper right of the frame. I also like #6 and #10 (wondering where Verlander is at during that moment). And I luv Cheescake.

Nice work.

Steve, nice set, and some alternate perspectives. I like 'em. I'm heading to Wrigley tonight. Tried using my 5D MkIII Wednesday night coupled to my 400 f/2.8L to give me a slightly wider field of view than my regular set-up of the 1D MkIV with the 400. It worked fairly well - still getting used to the longer shutter lag and reduced frame rate. I think I'll give it another go tonight.

Cool Dennis! Oh, and GO CUBS!
Try the shorter lens on the 5D for the closer in shots of the players and the field. Shooting full frame is great until you need something tight that's out to 2nd base or the outfield, then you miss the reach.

Steve, tried the 400/5D combo again last night, and by the 6th inning, I abandoned it and connected my MkIV to the 400 f/2.8L.

The three things that doomed the set-up were 1) the frame rate, 2) the lack of a voice tag and 3) the noticeably longer shutter lag.

The second item surprised me, but I use the voice tag ALL the time to help in captioning. Sure I was able to figure out a workaround by shooting the scoreboard and running images every inning (and when that didn't work, thank GOD for the ESPN.com play-by-play report online), but man did I miss the audible description of the plays.

The slower frame rate was less of an issue, as I rarely rely on shooting a burst, but there were a couple times I missed a shot I know I would have nailed had I had the higher frame rate of my MkIV.

I was also able to adjust to the longer shutter lag but I didn't like it.

All in all, though, I agree with you: the 5D is best suited to shooting with a wider lens (like the excellent 24-105 f/4L that I bought with it).

Dennis,
I see what you mean when you don't have the voice annotation going for you, that would be a huge thing causing me to change over too. I'm shooting with the D3 & D3S so I get that on both bodies, obviously. I've tried shooting the scoreboard too, but that's just not enough especially since my memory isn't long enough to remember each play, inning and result without it.
At least you've got a good lens to make it work, but the frame rate and shutter lag would be hard to get used to when switching over.

When I shot the game on the 27th. Hung out with him, ran into him again in the staff dinning area and had a couple dogs. Great guy.
